Brendan Rodgers has expressed that all his big name players will be starting the game tonight against Hearts. Liverpool only got a 1-0 away win to take back to Anfield, but boss Rodgers is not taking any chances. Rodgers could recall the likes of Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez to the team, but with a daunting trip to Arsenal at the weekend, the Welshman may decide to rest his star players and turn to youth. For example he could go for the impressive and agile winger Raheem Sterling or Jonjo Shelvey. Lucas is definitely out and could face three months out with a thigh injury.
Hearts captain Marius Zaliukas has been training this week despite a thigh injury, but he should feature for the Scots. Goalkeeper Peter Enckleman is a real doubt, so Jamie Macdonald is expected to keep his place in net.
What are Liverpool’s chances of advancing?
Liverpool have to play a steady game and if it comes to grinding a 1-0 win out, they will have still made it to the Europa league group stages, even if the most attractive football wasn’t played. The Merseyside club are hoping to make it into the Champions League next season, so the Europa League will be not a priority next season, but with only one point out of two the club has found itself well down the table. However if Liverpool play how they played against Manchester City on Sunday, then they will be close if not in the Champions League spots this season.
