Top 5 Signings Of The Season (So Far)

As we approach the halfway point of the premier league season, I have assessed which of the new signings made in the summer transfer window and these players are who I feel were the five best signings.

Van Persie – Robin van Persie broke he hearts of Arsenal fans in the summer by making the switch from the North London club, to Manchester United. Some questioned whether the hefty fee of £24 million pounds was worth it due to his age and injury record, but he has proved to be nothing less than a stellar signing. He has amassed an impressive 15 goals and 6 assists in 21 games. His excellent movement and superb link up play have added another dimension to United’s forward play and has been a very crucial part to why Manchester United find themselves top of the league.

Michu – If someone was to tell you that a relatively unknown player(in England) that was bought for £2 million pounds would be the top scorer at the halfway point of the season in August, you would have told them that they’re mad. But this is what Michu has exactly gone and done. Since his arrival. he has gone on to score 13 goals in 18 games, and in spectacular fashion. Without his goal this season yo could say Swansea would be in a deep struggle. All I can say is kudos to Michael Laudrup.

Vertonghen – You may be a little shocked by this one but I have been very impressed by Jan Vertonghen in his debut season. He has put in many powerful displays at both center back and left back and has also shown to have tremendous technical ability, especially for a defender. He has also shown an eye for goal and powerful left foot. He’s has been a treat to watch this season.

Cazorla – What can I say about Cazorla. Super Santi. What a player Arsene Wenger has bought, and for only £11 million pounds! He is simply magnificent. He has been the creative player that Arsenal sorely missed at times last season.  He is the player who can make up for the tremendous amount creativity and class they lost when Fabregas departed for Barcelona. He has been truly magnificent for Arsenal this season, with his best performance to date is being against Reading where he go his first career hat trick and an assist to tag along. The only disappointing thing is that Arsenal fans never got to see him play alongside Van Persie. But the best thing is that there is a lot more to come from little Santi.

Yacob – The signing of Yacob by West Brom is one that I feel has gone under the radar. West Brom have had a great start to the season and a crucial reason to that is Claudio himself. His ability to dictate the tempo of the game while help shield West Brom’s back four are big part of why they are in seventh place. In fact his absence in certain games could be argued as a reason why they aren’t further up the table. He has been a truly excellent player for them this season.

Thank you for reading. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
